On July 1, 2026, Ontario is changing the way auto insurance works – moving from a one-size-fits-all package of accident benefits to an “à la carte” model, where coverage that used to be automatic now has to be selected and paid for on purpose. For motorcyclists, that shift can open real gaps in protection at exactly the wrong moment, and push more injured riders toward tort claims to recover what their own policy once paid. I’ve written a piece for Lerners explaining what’s changing, why it matters for riders, and the practical steps worth taking before the bike comes out of storage.
