Bennett Legal’s Response to Covid-19

We are closely monitoring the rapid developments in the Covid-19 pandemic, which are often changing daily.  Our priority is the safety of clients and staff, always.  Bennett Legal is a boutique firm located on a quiet street in downtown Kitchener, typically with limited traffic in and out of our small building.  We are making every effort to carry on business as usual, to the extent possible in the circumstances while taking appropriate steps to ensure the safety of clients, staff, and service providers.

We may be small in size, but we use the latest technology to be able to serve clients effectively whether we are in the office or working remotely.

Client meetings are normally on an appointment-only basis. While law firms are considered essential services, with the recent provincially-ordered shutdowns, we are erring on the side of caution to ensure the safety of our clients and staff, and are not having in-person meetings during this time.  During this period of disruption, we are still happy to meet by telephone or to conduct face-to-face remote meetings by Skype, FaceTime, Zoom, Office365, WhatsApp and videoconference wherever possible.

We are also closely monitoring the Ontario Court system, which has now adjourned regular, non-urgent in-court proceedings (trials and motions) in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice until early June at the earliest.  Appeals in the Ontario Court of Appeal have similarly been suspended until early April at the earliest.  We are filing claims electronically where in-person court office filing is not possible.  We will also make every effort to move matters along out of court so that when court operations resume, they are closer to settlement or trial.

The Covid-19 situation continues to evolve daily, and we will closely monitor government and health authorities' recommendations and mandates to ensure safe and timely legal services. In the meantime, maintain your social distancing, stay at home if you can, be careful, and be kind to one another.
